Oman News Agency cites the company’s Director General of Projects, Salim Bin Said Al Alawi as saying that OBC will cover an additional 60,000 residential and commercial units this year, adding to its existing footprint of around 150,000 in Muscat, and representing around 55% of Muscat Governorate. In the first half of the year, OBC’s wholesale fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network was made available in the areas of Al Athaibah, Al Ghubrah, Al Qurum, Madinat Al Ilam, Wadi Uddy, Al Hamriyah, Al Wadi Al Kabir and Al Seeb.
TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database notes that OBC has been licensed by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) to construct and operate broadband infrastructure to be utilised by service providers on an equal and non-discriminatory basis. The FTTH network is being made available to licensed telcos Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), Ooredoo Oman and Awasr, as well as to government-run utilities and third-party service providers.
