Council member STL announced on 10 September 2026 the launch of plenum-rated fiber trunk assemblies aimed at AI-driven data center deployments.

The assemblies carry OFNP (Optical Fiber Nonconductive Plenum) certification, having met the NFPA 262 fire-safety requirement for cables run through air-handling spaces inside buildings. They extend STL's pre-terminated portfolio built on Intermittently Bonded Ribbon (IBR) fiber, and are offered in configurations from 48 to 576 fibers.

Each assembly is built in the factory with its connectors installed, polished and tested, so no splicing is needed on site. STL presents this as a way to install faster and at lower cost, and to add bandwidth where overhead and underfloor ducts leave little room, a common constraint in hyperscale, colocation and enterprise data halls.

Dr Badri Gomatam, CTO of STL's optical networking business, presented the launch as part of the company's work on high-density connectivity for AI infrastructure.
