The increasing demand for higher bandwidth, driven by remote work and the need for faster download and upload speeds, related not only to businesses, but also to residential subscribers, presents significant challenges for network operators. Remote workers today need to upload larger amounts of data from their home offices than they did pre- pandemic. Expanding and upgrading networks to meet this demand must be done faster and more efficiently. This article explores the evolution of Passive Optical Networks (PON) and how it enables network providers to connect additional homes in a faster and more cost-effective manner.
