K&A’s ICT & Digital Infrastructure Sub-Sector Enabling Fiber-Based Cognitive Cities Across the MENA Region

Khatib & Alami (K&A) continues to expand its leadership in digital infrastructure and smart city enablement through its ICT & Digital Infrastructure Sub-Sector, established as an independent business line to address the accelerating demand for advanced, resilient, and data-driven urban ecosystems across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

As governments and developers across the region pursue ambitious digital transformation agendas, cognitive cities—cities that sense, analyze, and respond intelligently—are emerging as a strategic priority. K&A’s ICT & Digital Infrastructure Sub-Sector plays a pivotal role in shaping these environments by integrating fiber optic networks, data centers, and advanced radio and wireless systems as foundational elements of next-generation infrastructure.

Regional Impact and Market Engagement

During 2024–2025, the sub-sector has supported multiple major projects across the MENA region, with a strong presence in the Gulf and expanding engagements in North Africa and the Levant. These projects span utilities, transport, ports, large-scale developments, and urban districts, where digital backbones and high-capacity connectivity are increasingly recognized as essential to operational excellence, sustainability, and long-term resilience.

End-to-End Digital Infrastructure for Cognitive Cities

K&A’s ICT & Digital Infrastructure Sub-Sector delivers comprehensive consultancy services covering the full digital infrastructure lifecycle, including:

  • City-wide, port-wide, and campus-wide digital infrastructure strategies and master plans, aligned with national smart city and digital economy programs
  • Target ICT architectures, implementation roadmaps, and integration frameworks, enabling interoperable, secure, and future-ready urban platforms
  • Design of fiber optic backbone and access networks, serving as the digital foundation for smart services, utilities, and urban platforms
  • Radio and wireless network planning, including high-density public Wi-Fi, Neutral Host DAS, and private LTE/5G networks to support mobility, IoT, and mission-critical applications
  • Edge and core data center infrastructure design, cloud- and hybrid-ready, enabling real-time analytics, AI-driven systems, and integrated operations centers

By converging connectivity, compute, and data, K&A enables cities and large-scale developments to evolve into intelligent, adaptive, and service-oriented ecosystems.

Advancing Fiber-Led Digital Transformation in MENA

K&A’s work aligns closely with the mission of the Fiber Connect Council MENA, reinforcing fiber optics as the cornerstone of smart, sustainable, and data-intensive cities. Across the region, fiber-based infrastructure is proving essential to supporting emerging technologies such as AI, digital twins, autonomous systems, and integrated urban command centers.

Through its ICT & Digital Infrastructure Sub-Sector, K&A supports regional visions and national transformation programs, contributing to the development of digitally empowered cities, utilities, ports, and critical infrastructure that are resilient, scalable, and future-proof.
