Prysmian Group extends its Sirocco HD cable range for FTTx and 5G networks

Sirocco HD cables provide the smallest diameters and the highest fibre densities for microduct cables.

Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, extends its Sirocco HD range of microduct cables to include a 576 fibre optic cable. Sirocco HD cables provide once again world record diameters and fibre densities for blown microduct cables. The new cable boasts 576 fibres in a diameter of 9.5mm, providing a fibre density of 8.1 fibres per mm2, and is installable into a 12mm duct.

Sirocco HD microduct cables utilize Prysmian’s BendBright-A2 200µm single-mode (ITU-T G.657.D, G.657.A2) bend insensitive fibre, providing a solution that’s ready for evolved systems and truly future-proof. “To support the exponential growth of data traffic and adoption of new technologies, it is crucial that we increase the capacity of the world’s optical networks. Optical cabling systems need to offer faster, more reliable and cost-effective deployment methods in order to be future-proof” states Ian Griffiths, Director R&D Telecom Business at Prysmian Group. “Sirocco HD microduct cables enable the development of extreme fibre count and reduced diameter systems, so we can meet today’s demand for the highest bandwidth capacity in duct installations”.

Available now in fibre counts from 96 to 576 and conforming to international standards for optical and mechanical performance, the Sirocco HD cables also benefit by the use of Prysmian’s PicoTube technology making them up to 20% smaller than previously available microduct cables. This makes it possible to install more fibres into congested duct space, and enables the use of smaller ducts for new installations, resulting in lower installation costs and the use of less raw materials. This provides benefits for both the total cost of network deployment and the environmental footprint.

Sirocco HD product enhancements show the Group’s commitment to respond to the evolving needs of the market and to offer a scalable solution that’s high-density, physically compact, and easily deployable for a future-fit solution. Not only we will see benefits through faster and more stable optical networks, installations will become more cost effective, more environmentally friendly, all with lower operational costs as network lifespan increases thanks to higher repair resilience given by BendBright bend insensitive fibre.
