In a landmark achievement for technical education in Palestine, the Technical and Academic Training Centre of the Jerusalem District Electricity Company (JDECO) has been officially recognised by the US-based Fiber Optic Association (FOA), becoming the country’s first and only FOA-accredited training provider.
Over the past year, the centre has delivered a series of specialised programmes focusing on the installation, operation, and testing of fibre optic cables across both internal and external network environments, including FTTH (Fibre to the Home) applications. The courses were delivered by certified instructors from Jedco Fiber—JDECO’s dedicated fibre optics subsidiary—who are themselves accredited by the FOA.
Participants who complete the programme earn the globally respected CFOT (Certified Fiber Optic Technician) certification, equipping them with industry-standard expertise and opening doors to international career opportunities in the rapidly growing field of fibre optics.
Eng. Hisham Al-Omari, Chairman of JDECO, described the milestone as a critical step towards building a resilient digital infrastructure for Palestine. “By developing highly trained, internationally certified professionals, we are not only meeting market demand but helping shape the future of connectivity in our region,” he said.
Jedco Fiber Executive Director Eng. Yousef Massis added that the international recognition cements the centre’s role as a trusted provider of world-class fibre optic training. “This isn’t just an accreditation—it’s a responsibility we carry to raise the bar for technical excellence in Palestine.”
To date, 54 engineers and technicians have enrolled in the programme. Of these, 29 have already earned their CFOT certification, while another 17 are currently preparing to sit for the internationally recognised examination soon.
